Barnes TSX Question
For you guy's that shoot the branes tsx bullet, I have a question. I know that branes recomends that you start at .050 off the lands . But my 300 WSM does not shoot well there. I was told that the deeper you seat your bullet that the accuracy will improve. This can't be right for all rifles am sure. So where would you go to try to improve . Up the powder , make it shorter , longer or what ? I am still alittle new to this game so some help would be of great help. The round measures 2.897 to the lands,I am set at 2.845 . Shoots fair but not what it should. And by no means am I a Davy Crockett , but I am not that bad. Oh my load is 58.5 grs of IMR4064 w/ winchester brass and Fed 215m primers, that is about all I can tell you.If you see some need for change or can answer the longer shorter question please do . Thanks

Slatts
If I remember correctly, Barnes recommends starting at 0.050 off the lands but recommended tuning between 0.030 and 0.070" off lands. I've always had good results at 0.050, but have heard several guys say they seat deeper at 0.070. It's counterintuitive, but it's a different type of bullet than you're probably used to loading and likes the setback.

Yes, Slatts is correct. I started my load development at .030", ended at .085" free run, to learn my best gap was .063" off the rifling. You have to find out for your rifle and barrel what's the best free run. I used the Audette method, needed some 50 bullets to set the development. Try using a cooler primer with 4064, as that 215 is quite hot and works better with big case full of 4831 or 7828.

Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

You can shorten or lengthen the OAL to see if it makes a difference, but don't expect great accuracy if you have only tried one powder.Too many people think that any bullet/powder combination with shoot great in every rifle.Another powder might provide much better accuracy.
