.404 Jeff case use
I know that the short Winchester cartridges are based on the .404 Jeff case. In fact, I have a .325 WSM that I like very much.

But I am wondering if there are any other lines of cases utilizing that .404 Jeff case, say at the 30-06 length?

A pretty good run down on variations using the Jeffery case ::

There's a bunch, but I bet there are very few that know why!

It sure is glamorous to claim your cartridge is based on the 404 Jeffery.
Cartridges actually based on the 404 Jeffery head diameter are actually very few, and even fewer if not rebated.

404 Jeffery: 0.545" head (.5449"), .543" rim (.5429"). Hardly a rebate.

WSM: 0.555" head, 0.535" rim rebated,
RUM, SAUM, Nosler: 0.550" heads and 0.534" rims, rebated.

Dakota's early offerings from 7mm-caliber up to 404 Dakota (short) and .416 Dakota (long) are the only proprietary family commonly encountered nowadays that are truly 404 Jeffery based, with same head and rim diameters as the 404 Jeffery.

The obsolete Canadian Magnums of North American Shooting Systems had a 0.544" head diameter, and all were rebated, 7mm- to .458-caliber, 0.532" rims.
Before the RUMs.

It takes quite a bit of elbow grease to make a rebated 404 Jeffery case from a .375 RUM case by sizing the head down and necking it up.

Very interesting!

Seems like Dakota hit the nail on the head. A true .404 case with a 30-06 length. No need for a huge action, but still some acceptable power. Too bad those Dakota Rifles are so damn expensive.
