Winchester's new Phillip's head action screws are nothing less than a brain-fart. The good news is, as has been mentioned, Brownell's offers hex-head replacement screws that are much better. Problem solved.

Certain rifles do seem to have a problem with screws loosening, no matter how tight you torque 'em. I have a couple of rifles that display this tendancy, so with these I degrease the threads of the action as well as the screws, apply blue Lock-Tite, re-install and torque the screws properly, and let the Lock-Tite set up for a day or so before shooting. No more loose screws. Problem solved.

Here is another reason why I like the Blaser R-93, NO ACTION SCREWS. Several different rifles I am familar with have problems with the action screws loosening up while shooting.
