army aviatorBest powder for 243 Win?
I am going to reload some 243 Win for my friend. I have a supply of 90gr Nosler BT and some 85gr Bonded Core bullets. I have most of the Hodgdon powders that are shown on their web site for 243Win. I also reloaded for his 22-250 using Varget with very tight groups. What do you recommend for the 243 Win? I want something with small grains like the Varget or H414.

DUKAlliant RL19 works for me pretty well, with bullets from Nosler, Norma and Lapua we tried.

LWDThe best load for my .243 turned out to use IMR3031. I've heard of good successes with IMR4350. But there are quite a few good powders out there. You'll just have to experiment.

GLShooterI've loaded 760 for years in the 243 but tried some IMR 4895 recently in a 700 BDL Sporter. It shot very well and velocity readings were outstanding.

30378Not sure it's the best in every gun but 2 of mine like Varget with 100gr Sierra SPBT. Don't know the velocity but accuracy is simply fantastic for a factory barrel.

ramrod340With 100BT in my stepsons rifle. RL22 gave the best accuracy RL19 gave me the best velocity. We load the Rl22.
As usual just my $.02

Paul HIn my .243's I've found Varget is excellent for 75 gr and lighter bullets, and H-4350 for 85gr and heavier bullets gets the nod.
I know 4350 is an old powder, and has long grains, but it meters fine though my redding br powder thrower, and accuracy is top notch. I've tried Varget w/ 85's and the accuracy just wasn't there.

DWrightIMR4350 has been my 'go to' powder in the .243s I've owned, and have yet to have one that with a little charge tweeking, would not shoot under 1/2".
But alas. . . . . every rifle is a little different.
