8mm RemMag load?
G'day Guys,
The "new" 8mm Remington Magnum (RemBDL)will be here next week and I was wondering what loads those that use this caliber have had success with? I'm mostly interested in using the AR/Hodgdon powders like H4350, H4831SC, H1000. Projectiles on hand will be BarnesX 200gr, Nosler BT 180gr, Woodleigh 220gr and 250gr. I'll be using Remington brass and a CCI magnum primer. I'd appreciate suggestions or experiences in loading for this cartridge. Also any experience in using those projectiles on elk sized game in thick cover?
Thanks...
Con

stubblejumperI only used one load in my 8mmremmag that being the 200gr partition in front of 80gr of imr4831.Velocity was 3050fps out of a 26" Hart barrel.

McCrayI used to use 220 grain Sierras or Hornadys with 78-79 grains of H4831. That was pretty much a max load in my Classic.
Now I use Reloader 25 (81-83 grains IIRC) and the 220 Barnes X or Swift A-Frame. Just never had any use for lighter bullets.
The Sierra worked on a 4x5 elk and the Barnes Xs worked on a Mountain Zebra and a Gemsbock bull. All one shot kills.

Bullet_ProofI've been using 80.5 grains RE22 behind the 200 grn partition, rem 9 1/2M primer with good success. I tried RE25 with this bullet but my barrel doesn't like it. With the heavier 220 grain hornady RE 25 worked really well.
