Several years ago (when I was actually young), I ran across some 7.62X54R ammunition that had bullets which were made of rolled sheet lead that had been apparently swaged into a metal jacket. These bullets tended to be rather inaccurate, 4-5 MOA, but they fragmented readily. Does anyone here have any information on the process used to make those bullets or have any personal experience with them? I am curious about what made this process seem acceptable since I would think the centrifugal forces acting on the layers would disqualify this type of construction in the design stages; I am surprised they did not fragment right out of the muzzle.

I agree, as I recall, this was russian surplus from WWII
