I have the bug.. I am going to get a progressive press. I had my mind made up to get a lock and load. then I started looking at the Dillon 550B. Now I am torn which one Blue sure is purty, And Red who can pass up a red sports car.
Any thoughts on either press pros, cons. I read some reviews and they are about equal.

Unless you are loading one particular caliber in very high volume a progressive press is not a very useful piece of machinery.

Yeh, I just finished loading over 1500 rounds of 38spcl. on a lyman turrent press. I need help. Between me and the kids and a buddy we shoot several thousand in a year.It gotta be time to move up

I have both.
The LNL gets used 98% of the time.
Nothing wrong with either choice, I like the extra station.
NOT blue, Red, or Green Fanboy, I ust use what works.
They both do, but for me its the LNL.

When it comes to progressive presses if it isn't Dillon Blue, I don't buy it. I've used most of the progressive loaders made in the past forty years but not the current Hornady L&L so I can't comment on it, but based on much experience, I'll take a Dillon every time.

Definitely the hornady. The blue one has some serious design flaws which many overlook. My opinion of course.

I have had my Dillon 450 (the predecessor to the 550), since 1981. Still in 100% original condition, even still using the original return springs.

Zero broken parts. Zero complaints.

I have used both; once you use the hornady you will understand the differences that make the hornady a much better design. Yes many people Use them successfully but if buying a new one the choice is obvious. My opinion.

For pistol calibers I use Lee I 3 1000s I have loaded 10s of thousands of rounds on them I would guess 200 plus rounds and hour is easy some times more.

I don't push it like it I use too but it doesn't take long to go through components.

I own 2 dedicated progressive presses.....both tooled for .223

Hornady Ammo Plant L&L and a Lee Loadmaster

Believe what you want but they both kick ass and if you have a half assed mechanical mind you won't tear up either

Bear in mind even Lee stands behind it's equipment 100% for life

Just call them and a part is on its way no matter what the equipment was

BTW........ I have singles also

One more thing.........For a progressive presses from big blue....
you have to buy the 650

Everything under the 650 is not a progressive press

For the money.......you can not beat the Hornady Ammo Plant L&L

I consider auto-indexing to be a safety issue. I don't want to forget to move the shell plate and double charge.
I consider five die stations to be the minimum I want. That gives me a station for a powder check die or bullet feeder or whatever.
I like the Hornady. It is wide open and easy to see what is going on. Even better, you can handle the cases and bullets with your left hand and your right never leaves the handle.
Finally, you can just look down at station 4 and SEE inside the case to examine the powder charge.
However, when it comes to presses, realize that MY opinion is really not important as you'll be using the thing. Get what works best for you.

Looks like a Lock and load. 5 station vers 4 and most of the votes by my count.

I bought my LNL at Midway USA during one of their sales and saved a few bucks. As others have testified, the LNL is hard to beat.

Midway has them on sale again. Not sure how it stacks up with what you have already found...

I had a 650 that was returned because it would not seat primers and they didn't fix it when it was returned to Dillon for service. I have a lock and load now. I will never buy another blue product. The Hornady is a keeper!
