Super STLHornady FMJ BT
Ok, I just ordered a box of 150 gr. Hornady FMJ BT bullets in .308. I have a reloading handbook but it only gives loads for Speer, Barnes, Nosler and Sierra. Would a generic load for a 150 gr. bullet suffice or would I need a special load because of the boat tail, etc. I already have the info for my hunting loads but I have to find data for my target loads. I would hate to have to buy the Hornady book just for this load. I am new to reloading and would appreciate the help.

craigsterUse a starting load from another maker for the same type/weight/caliber of bullet and work up.

Fat_AlbertAre you loading for a 308 Win rifle or a 7.62 NATO rifle? Factory 308 and military 7.62 NATO ammo are loaded to different pressures. Factory 308 can have as much as 8k to 10k more pressure than military 7.62. This site
http://www.surplusrifle.com/index.asp has a couple good write ups on the difference. If you are useng a bolt action it should not make a lot of difference but if you are using a gas operated or recoil operated military rifle it can.

Super STLI am loading for .308 Win. I wish it were 7.62 NATO but the whole headspacing thing prevents it. It is a bolt action. Thanks for the link.
