HI,

I know this I suppose a stupid question but one of my friends has accidently trimmed his 375 H&H cases too much and they are now 1 - 1.5 mm shorter than the standard length. If he seats the bullets the same to have the same OAL length than he had with the cases before he trimmed them will it affect him or not ?

The cases of your friend have the right lenght to do a LOTT round (after forming). May it's a possibility. May be you can trade it in this forum.

So you say he shouldn't encounter any pressure problems at all ? I'm sure he woukld be delighted to her that as he trimmed 50 cases and it's not too cheap to replace they were all Norma brass.

No problem - The 375 H&H head-spaces off the belt (or shoulder if you only neck size). The case AOL should be in the range of 2.850" and the max SAAMI AOL for the loaded cartridge is 3.60". If the case trim length is less that this, all you have done is reduced the length of the neck. The neck measurement from the shoulder to the mouth is generally in the range of .352 inches. As long as there is sufficient neck length and tension to properly hold a bullet, your safe.

Next time show your friend how to use a micrometer and a trimmer.

Yeah, a BIG micrometer. Or, maybe get him some calipers instead.

no problem with the short necks. Keep the aol the same. Actually, the trim figure is not exactly "writ in stone". Its a balance that keeps you from having to trim all the time.

Just don't try to crimp these cases as you might with cases of the proper length.

Should not be a problem, keep to the same Aol and you will be fine

It is not a problem and has little to do with anything...crimp them shoot them and forget it, he won't have to trim for awhile, thats about it.....nothing dangerous.

In many cases it is necessary to do exactly as your friend did in order to crimp in the bullets crimping groove and still get the 375 H&H's over all lenth to fit the magazine with a proper crimp, particularly in Mausers, English and Germans made back when all 375's shot the short RN bullets.
