Anybody tried this combination? I would like to be at 2800ish PFS but not sure what to start with - Hogdon quotes CFE223 max load at about 2900.

moe, is this a modern rifle or military?
I like 170gr at 2700f/s
I load for accuracy not velocity.
cfe looks like a good choice to me. watch for pressure signs and work up

Moe You didn't mention what rifle you plan to shoot these loads in. In a commercial 8x57 or in a good model 98 pressures can be brought up to the 50 K range with no problems. Also what brass you are planning on using. Some European brass is considerably heavier that Win/ Fed/Rem brass and the max load will be 2or 3 grs less with the heavier brass. I have loaded a number of high vel loads in the 150 thru 175 gr for the 8x57 and have found that 4895 and 4064 are hard to beat accuracy wise. Rl 15 is also very good (if you can find any). I've tried CFE 223 and accuracy has not been as good as 4895 and 4064. Also suggest you seat that Barnes bullet out as long as your magazine will allow.

It is in a sporterized milsurp K98. I currently load 150's in the 2900 range with 4895. Brass is brand new R-P.

Before I re-barreled my WWII milsurp to 257R I was shooting 160TTSX over 48gr of IMR4320 at 2750fps. Probably could have pushed it farther but 2750 was all I was looking for and it was accurate.

Which MIlsurp? that's the question, what do the markings on the side of the action say..All milsurps are not good, that's why they ask..
