Do you guys w/ long throated rifles chase the lands when seating?

When I reload for my rifles I try to seat almost touching the lands but, on deep throated rifles I have just seated to normal spects. I was wondering if you guys try to get close on these deep throated rifles and does it give you better performance?

It seems on some rifles you almost have to just barely seat the bullet to get that close but, I have always heard "get it at least as deep as it is wide(dia.).

Thanks

Depends on the rifle. For some rifles that I use for target and varmints only, I'll set up for the lands and use the rifle as a single shot. For my hunting rifles, I load to a col that will allow me to use the magazine. As for how deep the bullet needs to be seated, in those rifles for that kind of shooting I've never found it to be an issue. Now, if it were, say, an older Weatherby with the 3/4" freebore, then I wouldn't even try to get close to the lands. FWIW - Dan

I gave up on trying to seat to the lands mainly because the bullet would only be inside the case about 1/8". I returned the SToney Point tool the next day. Since I have an enormous distance to the lands I don't bother trying. Now, those same rifles shoot sub MOA or better within 300 yds, so there is even more reason for me not to try. After time (2K rnds), if I start to see accuracy problems, I'll just retune the boss on them.

I guess the moral of the story is that unless you are having accuracy problems at regular seating lengths, I wouldn't worry about it.

I chase em right to the edge of the mag box. Then I gotta stop or it's a single shot!
