pgellers.358 Norma Trim Length...
Hi,
I am new to reloading bottleneck cases and have a couple of probably stupid questions---
1. I am assuming that case trimming should take place after the cases are sized???
2. For those that load the .358 Norma --what length do you trim to? I believe the max case length is 2.519" or 2.520" (depending on the source). I have one source that says trim length should be 2.505". I also have some unfired factory Norma brass that measures at 2.512". Any suggestions??
Thanks!!!!

ramrod340I have always used max length of 5.2 easier for this old guy to remember. As to the trim length it is really your choice. 2.505 vs 2.512 or 2.510 isn't really going to make a difference. Shorter means more time before trimming is required. I've made a lot of 308 & 358 Norma brass from 338wm which is shorter than either of your trim lengths. I sure wouldn't worry about trimming new Norma brass.
Yes trim after sizing.

pgellersThanks for the information. Anything short of about 2.515+ leaves most of the cannelure exposed w/ Hornady 250 gr SP loaded to OAL of 3.3" --which is the min OAL listed for H4350. I'm sure it would be different for different brands of bullets & different weights. Just looking for all the info I can get before ordering a lee trim length gauge. Thanks, Paul

ramrod340I wouldn't worry about where the cannelure is located. I load my 358 just off the lands. With my 250s that makes it just short of 3.4"
