I went to the local sporting goods store about three weeks ago to buy a brick of Rem 7 1/2 and a brick of Rem 1 1/2 primers. No 7 1/2, so I bought 6 1/2 at $24.95 and 1 1/2 (new old stock) at $20.00. The guy behind the counter said getting primers was a hit or miss proposition these days,

Jeff WemmerWest Texas Primer Report:
SOLD OUT!
They say some guy came in and bought all the Fed 215M primers they had...Then was asked to leave when he stood outside several business asking customers if they'd part with any "extra" they had sitting 'round thier loading rooms.
Must be "Bush's" fault

Be advised
DO NOT use the rem 6 1/2 in place of a 7 1/2 in .223. The 6 1/2 is intended for 22 hornet, wasp, and other small low pressure rimed 22's. If you use them in an AR-15 or any other .223, you will have pinholes in the edge of the pimer cup, that WILL damage your bolt face. Ask me how I know! I had to replace the bolt on my bushy, and send my contender in to have a new firing pin bushing installed!

Can't find 210 or 210M in Houston. I'm hurting at only 500 in the cabinet. What's the concensus for the next best primer? Remington? CCI?

It is the same in the UK. I have just secured several thousand but only after frantically ringing around alot of dealers. The main ones are out already and don't know when they will be re-stocked. This (and I am guilty of this) may lead to distress purchase of other makes of primer in lieu of Federal and may produce a snowball effect and then all of a sudden there are NO primers out there full stop.
If it is true that ATK have secured a contract to supply ammo to the govt then I can understand why there is a shortage. Certain powders in the UK (namely Alliant) are also sold out and I am told will not be available in the UK till end of 2007.
Anyone got a bow and arrow??
Checking a few of the Internet based dealers (Midsouth etc), it seems Federal primers are pretty short in supply right now. Midsouth lists expected delivery date somewhere in late April.
CCI seems to be in stock (by and large), as does most Remington primers. For the ones not in stock (e.g. Rem Large Rifle) an expected delivery date of 15-Apr-2007 is listed.
Even with the uncertainty of actual future delivery dates, this does not sound like a major shortage to me - unless you happen to be out right now.

500grainsSportsman's Warehouse is out of a lot of things including many primers (with federal leading the list), many types of ammo, some several kinds of bullets. They said that new inventory arrives in small and unpredictable batches, unlike last year when they could get whatever they wanted with a phone call.
The dealers i have spoken to are taking nothing for granted. Everyone has the primers on back order but they are not relying on recieving them when the importer is saying they will. Basically i would get hold of what you can now.

aktoklatSports South has Large Rifle Magnum Primers in CCI, Remington and Winchester, Federal has been on order since early December.
Large Rifle primers are in stock in CCI, CCI Bench Rest & Winchester.
I hope this helps!
Personally, the Fed 215 & 215M are great in my applications. However, the WLRM has performed just as well IMHO. Good Luck!

DwightWe are getting low on all large rifle primers at the range so I stocked up today with 4000 and only 10000 left in the store.

RenegadeRNI know the dealer around the corner is low...NOW since I bought 1/2 of the Federals he had. I was generous and wanted to ensure my fellow shooters had some to use. But like the other places you list he had plenty Winchester primers.

River RatThe biggest gun shop here in Virginia got word from Federal that the primers on their shelves would be all they have,
for AT LEAST the next year. No word about Winchester or CCI, but the current state of affairs would indicate to get them while you can!

djpaintlesI probably shouldn't tell everyone this because they will probably get sold soon, but between us friends here, Gene Sears Supply in El Reno, Oklahoma has a few hundred thousand Federal 215M's in stock. I was in back picking up an extra case for myself and saw probably 50-150 more cases of them on the racks.
You might call them and pick some up before they are all gone.....................DJ
