<short243>short mags
I was looking over the new WSM and Rem. new short mag the other day and couldn't help but wonder. I like the longer neck on Rem's but not fond of the taper on the shoulder. Win's got a touch longer body and steeper shoulder but a short neck.
Never one to leave things alone, I was wondering about taking the shorter case and blowing out the shoulder to a bettrer angle and trying to get something between the R.& W..
Possibly even bumping in the shoulder and trimming the neck on the Rem..
But then does the short neck on the WSM really hinder the loading of different wieght bullets for accuracy.
Oh well just some pondering from an curious reloader......

KuduKingI've reloaded about three hundred rounds for the .300 WSM and shot about a hundred more than that. There have been no loading problems with bullets from 150 to 220 grains. It is easy to reload, and case stretching is mininal even with the full-length resizing I have been doing. Cases are on their 11th reload with no problem.
I can't see the advantage of the Remington case, with its lower capacity, and ridiculous name.

Frank NowakowskiI am intrigued by the WSM line but have been busy with hunting season,work, etc and haven't really read all the info out there. Are they going to do a .338 WSM?? THAT ONE really intrigues me. Plus what sort of real world accuracy and velocity are you guys getting in the thirties with say 180's?

180's in the 300WSM will go mid 2900's with the 23"-24" barrels currently offered. Gun favorite loads shoot .5"-.75" 3 shot groups with other loads shooting 1"-1.5" 3 shot groups. Definitely very good accuracy from this cartridge for off the shelf factory guns.

Has anyone done anything with the Remington SAM with bores above 40 caliber?

DB BillRoger.....John Lazzeroni has made a .416 (the Maverick) based on his short-action Patriot but that is a far as he felt he could go and still maintain head-space and the Patriot case is fatter than either the Winchester of the Remington.

DB BillAs I understand it, the "pressure" problems with the WSM were caused by poor quality control with respect to the bolt faces and not the loaded ammo.
