7mm STW COL
I am thinking of rebarreling a Savage 110 rifle to 7mm STW. My max magazine length is 3.425. I'm worried that I wont gain much in velocity over the standard 7mm RM because I'll have to seat the bullets deeper into the case to fit into the magazine. Does anyone have any chronographed loads from a 7mm STW in a 26" barrel with a COL of close to 3.425"?

I have a STW but load it out as far as a M70 mag will allow. Looking at loadtech reducing the COL to 3.425 reduces the max powder by 3-6 grs depending on the powder. Lowers the Max velocity listed at max pressure buy 100-150FPS. Taking a 7mag increasing the pressure to STW levels and the COL to 3.425 give max velocities 25-75 fps slower than the STW. Burning an extra 10+ grains of powder isn't worth it in my book. If you do stay with the shorter bullets. No BTs to save room for powder.

As usual just my $.02

I expected something like that would happen. I think I'll get a standard 7 RM 26" barrel and load it up to higher pressure. Thanks for the info.

I'll do the work myself. I shoot a Savage rifle. The barrel nut that they use to secure the barrel to the action makes it pretty easy to swap barrels. I have an action wrench and a wrench for the barrel nut. All I really have to do is loosen the nut and remove the old barrel. After that I just screw the new barrel into the action with a headspace gauge in the chamber and tighten the nut. I can get a new barrel from Savageparts.com or Sharpshootersupply for a reasonable price.
