New .223 Remington
This weekend I will be picking up my old 788 Remington That was been rebarreled and rechambered to .223 Remington. It has 26" # 4 taper Stainless Steel Premium Air Gauge Barrel heavy sporter barrel by Douglas (1 in 9 twist). With all the goodies performed on the action and trigger. Could anyone give me some guidance about a good 50 grain bullet load that would shoot in the 1 in 9 twist. I have been given a lot of information about the heavy bullets, but I would like some about the 50 to 55 grain bullets. Thanks in advance for the help.

Mine loves 53 gr Sierra MatchKings (and 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips as well) over 24.5 grs of Varget, with WSR primers. Not topped out on blazing speed, but shoots sub-1/2".

So far my Savage loves the combo of L.C. brass, 27gr of BLC-2, 50gr Sierra Blitzking, and a Rem standard primer. The Savage also has a 1-9 twist.

LC brass, WSR primers, 24.5 grs of Varget, 53 gr Sierra MatchKings, 2.250" OAL, 2.920" to the ogive as measured by my Stoney Point comparator, primer pockets swaged then cut to uniform depth, flash hole deburred.

This is a consistent sub-1/2" load in my rifle.

Thanks so much for the information. I will load some ammo tonight for break in of the barrel and accuracy testing as soon as that is complete. Sure looking forward to loading for this rifle/cartridge combination. The long sleek 75 and 77 grain bullets are sure attractive, but I can't be with a 50 to 55 grain load. Has anyone had any sucess with the 60 grain VMax. That seems like it would be a great coyote load. They can be tough critters and the energy from the heavier bullet seems attractive.......
