Jim, if your happy with your IMR-4350 I whould stay with it, its a great powder choice in the 270 win(with a new can I'd drop your load 5% and work-up again). If you want to try something new I whould go with H-4831sc, its now one of the extreme powders sold by Hodgens. What that means is that you will get very close to the same pressure/velocity no matter what the outside temperature. Also if you buy 1 lb. cans lot to lot it will be very, very close. For the 150-160 gr. Noslers my 270 likes IMR-4831 with Fed 210match primers....41

You should continue to use what works in YOUR rifle. But, if you want to play, you've heard some great choices. One choice that I find is missing in the thread is Reloader 19.

57.0 grains of Re19 and a 130 Triple Shock has produced 1/2" groups or better in 4 different 270's between me and my brother.

I have used the following powders with undeniable success in the 270WCF:

H4831SC
H4831
IMR4831
IMR4350
Re19, Re22 (especially Re22!!)
AA3100
H1000 (with 140, 150 grain bullets)

I will say this, if you really want to play, go buy 3 pounds of Reloader 22, work up a load, make sure it's consistant, load up a couple hundred and you're done. Unless you just shoot alot for practice.

Re22 sure does produce some very tight groups, and I was a bit surprised with the Re19.

FWIW, I haven't had a lot-lot problem in the last 2 years. I also have not had a problem working up a load in Ohio with Reloader powders, and taking them to Colorado.

Finally, (about time right?), just a little hint though, I have more IMR4350 on my shelf than any other powder. Why? Because it works and works well and groups are always good enough for hunting.

I have only been handloading for 3 years, and I have always used IMR 4350 for my .270's. I am about to finish up a can of it and was wondering if I should branch out and try something new. What are y'all's favorite powders for loading the .270?

Original surplus 4831 was one of the best, but of course is no longer available. I would try the currently manufactured H4831 or perhaps IMR 7828. The IMR version of 4831 is so similar to your IMR 4350 that it offers no advantage.

Reloder 22 is a favorite of some people, and although it usually works well, it is known for a great deal of lot-to-lot variation. If you try it, be sure to have access to enough of the same lot to last you a while, or you'll possibly be reworking your load if you have to go to a new lot.

All I ever used for my .270 was IMR4350 and got 1/2" groups or less with it. If you're getting good accuracy, I'd stay with it. If you're looking for some more velocity, try MAGPRO.

O'Conner shot a truck load of surplus H-4831 in his 270s years ago and there's nothing wrong with that load today but that powder is all but gone. Your load with 4350 is also a good powder to work with and you might try RL-22. It works for me in my 270's.
