I picked up a Browning low wall in 260 Remington
recently and want to shoot as long/heavy/premium
bullet as possible. Browning pulled a bonehead
move and put a 10 inch twist in this rifle so my
dreams of shooting the 130 grain Accubond are gone. It's longer than a 140 grain Sierra.


Could one of you gents that shoots these bullets
in the 6.5 mike them and give me the length on
them.

I would not be so quick to declare the Accubond as unworkable in a 1 in 10 twist without trying afew.

My DISCLAIMER: I have NO experience with the 6.5 bullets....YET. But will in about a month, specifically with the 130 AB in a 6.5x284.

I am only regurgitating what I've been told by the smith who is building my rifle.

"The 6.5 is best with the 1-8 twist, as anything with a slower rate of twist simply doesn't work as well if at all, that is as repeatable."

You might want to take a look at the Berger bullets site. http://www.bergerbullets.com/
They list their recommended twist rate for every bullet they make. I've found that their info is usually correct. as we all know, or should know the best match of bullet to barrel is when the twist is just fast enough to stabilize the bullet. Still, when you get to the match or the hunt, the best bullet and twist are the ones that hit the center of the target.
If you need some starting points for a specific Berger bullet You can E-mail them direct. Walt Berger gave me some very good info that helped me produce teensy little groups and I'm sure he'd be happy to do the same for you or anyone who uses his bullets.

Anyone shoot the 125 grain Partition ?

Would like to know length of that bullet.

Here's a 6.5mm 140 partition at 1.296

a 6.5mm 120 ballistic tip at 1.213.....the 125 must be somewhere between them...

Am using the 125 Nosler partition in a Mark X Mauser with a 24" E.R.Shaw barrel chambered for .264 Win Mag. Twist is 1 in 10.

Rifle shoots the 125 very nicely ... routinely yields less than 1" groups without optimizing the load. Will measure length of bullets when I get back to the shop.

The 120 hotcor is 1.080"

Made it to the shop. There are the lengths of a couple of 6.5mm projectiles:

Length of 125 gr Nosler Partition = 1.178"
Length of 130 gr Barnes TSX = 1.330"

Have not tried the 130 gr Barnes TSXs in the 1:10 twist yet.
