Thinking about rebarreling to try one of the rounds out,,,anyone have any gripes complaints ,,
praises ect. about this round I would really be greatful to hear your thoughts,,,especialey about the accurate end of it,,,it would be fired from a 26" bull barrel bolt action,,,,,thanks for any

i would say 270 wsm... and be done with it. the 6.5 is awesome, but it's 264 vs 277, same same for the rest, and factory brass.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Since it will be built with a bull barrel, I assume it will be for long range work. Go with the 6.5 X 284. It is superb long range cartridge. Good brass is available from Norma. Use a 28 barrel. There is so many more match grade bullets available for the 6.5 I have seen the 6.5X 284 consistently hit 15" steel plates out to 1800 yards. Damned impressive for burning 52 grain of powder. IMHO nothing will go as far as it goes for the powder burnt or wear and tear on the shooter.

Downside, the four guys that have them that I shoot with have found them to be finicky to load for. Don't expect bughole size groups. But loads that shoot in the .3's to .4's aren't out of the question with work. Play with bullet depth once you have found a load that gives good E.S. H4831 seems to work well. RL 22 is another good one but lot to lot consistency is terrible. Try the 142 Sierra MK, 139 Lapua Scenar, or the 140 Berger VLD. All will accurately fly a LOOOOONG DISTANCE!

I have a 6.5-284 built of a VZ-24 action with a Shillen match grade #7 SS barrel. It is incredibly accurate (It consistently shoots in the .3's at 300 yards).

Since you mention you're going to use a heavy barrel, I assume it's going to be a target and or varmit rifle. Forget the .277 bore. There are very few .277 match grade bullets on the market and plenty of 6.5 match grade bullets available.

6.5-284 factory brass is readily available from Norma, Hornady, etc and is probably easier to obtain than 270 WSM. Necking down .284 cases is a no-brainer.

I just got the latest copy of Precision Shooting.They post the results of rifle competition matches in every copy.Several 6.5-.284,finished very high in the matches.Barrels used by most shooters in all the matches are Shilen,Hart,Kreiger,K&P,.These are the most popular.There are a few other brands,Shaw is not one of them.Hope this helps in your decision making
