223 AI and IMR 8208XBR
Been wanting to try some IMR 8208 XBR in the old spare parts rifle. See how it would do.
The wind has been blowing like crazy last couple weeks. Got out Sunday a week ago. It had laid to a modest 6-10 mph blowing from 10 to 4 from where I was shooting.
Just for shits and giggles here are six different bullets (loaded per book spec). All were shot off bench at 100 yds.
Enjoy

Looks like your on the right track for sure.

Is Range 1 opened back up yet?

With the price of fuel looks like I might be spending more time out there, instead of at our place in the country.

Couldn't answer as to whether Range 1 is open. Lat time I was there was Monday a week ago. IIRC there were folks there at Range 1. Only time I shoot on that range is if I'm going out to 300 yds. It is definately convenient. Ten to 15 minutes at most.

GW,

Is that a flake type powder, ball or stick?

I was looking at some load data on 8208 and found its burn rate ( based on some load data) is pretty much the same burn rate as good old H 322.

Seafire,
I'd say its a super short cylindrical grain rather than a ball or flake.

This from the IMR website

IMR 8208 XBR The latest in the versatile IMR line of fine propellants, this accurate metering, super short grained extruded rifle powder was designed expressly for match, varmint, and AR sniper cartridges. Ideally suited for cartridges like the 223 Remington/5.56mm, 308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO and the 6mm PPC, shooters will find IMR 8208 XBR totally insensitive to changes in temperature, while yielding max velocities and “tack driving” accuracy. Clearly, the competitor’s “choice” and the Varmint Hunter’s “dream powder”.

I've tried it in 223 AI, 222Rem 22-250 (not so good in my rifle) and 308 (2900fps with 150 grainers, book load)
