Bullet recommendation for .375H&H for large plains game
Right now my first choice is a 260gr Accubond.

Any other suggestions?

I'm with you on this one....that would be my choice as well.....as a matter of fact I left box of 50 loaded rounds with my PH last time I was there.

For me I would use the 300gr Nosler Partition.

You did say LARGE PLAINS GAME.

I would not hesitate to use the 300gr Nosler Partition for cape buff, or any other game on the Planet where a Soft is the bullet of choice.

I think your first choice is right on, the AB is a tough bullet.
Another good choice would be a 270gr Woodleigh PP, they work really well on plains game.

270 gr TSX over 75 gr RL15 works wonders.

I use what ever shoots best in my gun. So I took the 300 grain TSX for Steenbok to Zebra.

Plains game is understood to exclude dangerous game.

I wil lsecond the 260AB. They get 2750ish fps in my M70.

I would agree with the 300gr NPs.

Also I would not hesitate to use the 300gr Nolser Partition on cape buff. [Or whitetail deer for that matter].

I have used the 300gr Nosler Partition on two cape buffalo. Both were very quick kills, but the Noslers did not give me the penetration I would have liked.

I fired one Partition into each buffalo(first shot) and neither exited. I don't mind that they did not exit, but what bothered me was that the bullets did not even make it to the skin on the off side.

I might use the NP again on cape buffalo, but I would have to think long and hard about it.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

IF you are not hunting DG on the same safari, anything your rifle shoots well would be fine. If you are also hunting DG, my preference is to only shoot one bullet. I shot my wildebeest at just under 300 yards with a 350gr Woodleigh PP because that was what I was using for buffalo.

Unless the plainsgame hunting is being conducted in an area where dg occur.

I like the 300g TSX. Its accurate and deadly. I saw a smaller caliber Accubond that was used on a moose this year and the comment I heard that didn't come from me was "Good thing it wasn't used on a bear!" The Accubond came apart badly.

270 gr. TSX or 300 gr. TSX.

I shot a moose with a 270 Barnes, one of the blue moly ones; little hole in & a little out on a broadside shot. Moose ran almost 200 yards into some really thick cover which resulted in 2 hours of searching. It was certainly dead with "one" shot but didn't know it. Never found he bullet, really didn't care looking for it after looking for a moose for 2 hours. My theory is it didn't hit any bone, so it didn't expand, thus not causing much shock. I'm not saying it failed, but I've never had the same experience with Nosler or Swift. Lately I've been loading 300 Norma Oryx but haven't had the opportunity to test one on a moose yet.

When I use a Soft on cape buff I DO NOT want it to exit on a broadside shot. That way I can shoot and not worry about over penetration.
So far I have not had a 480 Woodleigh Soft, or a 500gr Swift A Frame, from my 450 No2, nor a 400gr Woodleigh .408 Soft from my 450/400, or a 286gr Woodleigh from my 9,3x74R exit on any shot.
I have recovered multiples of the .458 and the .408 Softs, but I have ony recovered one of the 9,3 Woodleighs from a buff as I only had to shoot that buff once. Big Grin

I killed one buff with my 450/400 shooting only softs, as in the distance I could see a bunch of other cape buff, and did not reload with Solids on purpose, hoping they would stay inside the cape buff, and they did. tu2

Me to.

What shot best for me in one rifle were Speer 270 gr. standard cup and core bullets over RL-15. I took 2 Warthogs, a Blue Wildebeest, an Impala, a Blesbok and a Zebra with that load each with one shot.
