EXPRESSWhich bullet for heavy .444Marlin?
I'm looking for some .444 Marlin loads for a double rifle to use on pigs and possibly water buffalo in Australia.
The companies I'm looking at for now are Beartooth and Castperformance with the;
Castperformance 320gr. WLNGC/DC .430 dia
All the slugs between the; Beartooth 325gn LCMN .429 dia - Beartooth 405gn WLN DCG .429 dia
Any reccomendations?
Also, how do these cast slugs stack up against say a 300gn Uni-core or other jacketed pistol bullet?
Thanks.

Rancho LocoFor me the 300 grain unicor over RL7 blew big holes through pigs.
So did the 300 grain WFN hard casts.
Did that help?

seafire2I have found that using a 300 grain XTP, at about 1800 fps will more than make up or equal faster loads with heavier bullets in the 444..
I settled on slower velocity, because the bullets for that caliber are so lacking in aerodynamics, that by reducing the velocity with a heavy 300 grainer down to 1800 fps, the recoil is reduced heavily at the cost of about 10 to 15 yds point blank range....
the 300 grain XTP is designed to open up at low velocities and yet take higher velocities possible in the 444... I have found it will out penetrate a 265 grain Hornady and a 270 Speer Gold Dot..
It is pretty much my 444 Hunting bullet....

KSTEPHENSi shot beartooth LFN 335g out of a custom takedown marlin. i think the bullets are still going as i never recovered one. even on frontal shots.
