I am about to start loading for a custom 7x57 with a snug chamber and throated for the 150gn scirocco. I have on another post discussed why they will now not be used. I have had 7mm rifles for nearly 35years but would apreciate others input as the bullets they use and why. I want to do a bit of paper work and thought to try the 168 Berger and have read good things about it on deer sized game as well, which is the second point of querry. A good deer to wapiti bullet that might also pass muster for PG. Primary sighting is bolt aperture with qd scope in backpack. Remember we are talking velocities for the 7x57, short of max but more than loading manuals. My powder choice is ADI 2208 - 2209. ( 4064 - 5350 ). Thanks in advance.

I'm not an accuracy nut but when I want to see what I can do I like B'Tips and SSTs as I can double them on deer sized game. (139-140 grain)

For larger animals I like 162 to 175 bonded bullets.

my own experience with the 7x57 is that for deer, anything from 129-145 grains would be quite adequate, but when you throw elk into the mix, you would of course want to go a little heavier.

you might try sierra game kings, speer grand slams or nosler partitions at 160 grains. Since your rifle is throated for 150 grain bullets, you should even do well with those; with 7x57 velocities they should work well for both deer and elk.

i would caution against something that is too strongly constructed, because deer are thin-skinned and you might see problems with such heavy bullets.

I used the 139 sst in the last 7x57 and had a good run with them, sub moa, & good on deer-goats. Previously had run the 162BTSP. Was just wondering what others were using. The 160gn

I use 140 grn bullets in the 7x57/7-08 class of cartridge, but like 160 grn bullets from my 7 Rem mags.

I use the 175 hornady round nose bullets. I grew up using the privi partisan 175 round nose loads and liked them so much that i have never thought of loading anything different for the cartridge. With good loads, I am 4" high at 100, dead zero at 200 and not too low at 300 yards.

I prefer 140 grain Nosler Partitions.. So do my rifles.

I loaded 140gr Barnes TTSX bullets for my son when we went to Namibia last year. They shot very tight groups. They had penetration plus on game. He dropped a 49 inch Kudu and the bullet passed thru both shoulders. He shot a Kudu cow in the chest and we found the bullet under the hide in the opposite hind quarter.

I have had excellent accuracy and terminal performance with the .30 cal and 7MM Barns TSX and TTSX bullets.

FWIW my 1895 Chilean Mauser likes the 150gr Winchester power points.

Nothing but bad results with boat tails in this rifle.
