I'm the one who posted earlier about the .256 Newton. Well, my little brother Duffy bought the rifle and along with it came a set of RCBS dies in .256 Newton and a set of Hollywood Gun Shop dies for a .257 Roberts. The sizer die says ".257 Roberts siz die and the other die says .257 crimp seat die. Both dies have a striking similarity to an older RCBS die. By some chance, was the Hollywood Gun Shop bought out by RCBS? Duffy plans on keeping the dies just for the heck of it, but both he, and I, would like a little history on these dies. Thanks ... Hollywood made quality stuff, equal and perhaps better than any of todays stuff or at least I like to think so..

I still use an old Hollywood single stage press on a post that is the size of a bridge Piller on the snake river, it is the smoothest resizing press I have ever used and takes less effort to resize than any press I have used, including my RCBS A-2.
They bring about $300 on the used Market if you can find one...

Mine was about to be thrown away and I grabbed it and the guy said you can have it its just a piece of junk...I took it home and cleaned it up and have been using it ever since....That Hollywood stuff was the best available back in the late 40's and early 50's....still is.

Guys like Robert Hutton and Phil Sharpe used the Hollywood setups. Their stuff cost more than my car did back then.

Ray and Don: Thanks fellas. I appreciate the info. Guess I'll tell Duff to hang on to them, or better yet, give them to his older brother cause he's such a swell guy in the first place. They do look like they are well-made dies, though neither Duff or I have .257 Roberts. Anyway, thanks again for the inforamtion. Tom Purdom

Good post. I found a set of Hollywood 30-06 dies at my local sporting goods for $10.00 and was wondering what and where they came from!

Those Hollywood presses (from back when shooters were welcome in kalifornia) had a great reputation.
