byf42say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have heard that winchester is discontinuing it's "silvertip" line of bullets (not the ballistic silvertip, but the old school ones, like on the 30-30 and 30-06) is this true???? or is someone talking out of their ass again?

vapodogI cannot confirm or deny this but if it is so IMO we're not missing a lot....the power points are everything the old silver tips was.

ShopCartRacingI wouldn't think so.
The oldest silvertips were excellent.
That chunk of aluminium would smash, expand and they were devestating on deer sized game.

krakyI had a fussy 30-06 bar that liked the old alum tipped 150 grainers. I bought some bulk about 8 years ago when they were being closed out. They also were'nt too "sleek" and you could seat them for clip room AND be close to the lands. (something kind of hard to do with todays plastic tipped wonders that wind up at max clip room and .090" away from the lands!) Or more!

byf42God... i hope not! the "silvertip" bullets, especially in 30-30, are classics... hope they don't discontinue them!!!!!!!!!!!! looked on midway usa's website, no silvertips! tornados in november, multiple hurricanes in the gulf, winchester discontinuing slivertips, yup, the end times are indeed here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boss HossHmmmmmmm---with the new Hornady ammo out it would seem that everything else would be behind the power curve for the 30-30, 45-70 and the 450 Marlin. For the others yep if this is true then a good bullet will be gone.

butchlambertThey are boxes of 100 bullets in the old yellow boxes. They look like cartridge boxes. Butch
