Accurate 22-250 Load ?

What is your most accurate load for this cal.?
I have a 700 vs sf Rem. it shoots every thing I have tried fair but I cant find the ONE hole load.

My best load to date 32.5 grains Rel-15 powder Winchester brass Federal primers Sierra 60 gr. FBHP bullet. from my Savage 12FV 1 in 12" twist barrel.

I use Varget and H-380. My best load is 38.5gr of H-380, standard primer, and 55gr Nosler moly coated ballistic tips. Great for relocateing prarie dogs.

My best is a 52gr Starke setting in Hornady(Frontier) brass using a BR-2 primer and 39.0grs of AA2700 in a Savage.

TBS-- Your cheating I see the Shilen built--just kidding ,Great Shooting! Accurate loads in one rifle won't nessescarily shoot well in another, guns are individuals , thats what makes it fun , getting to know them. Having said that. I'm real fond of 55gr bullets in 250's, Sierras BTSP in a Rem, 55gr V Max in a Sako. As I spend a lot of time working up to a safe load in a specific rifle and it might be too hot in another I'd rather not give weights, however I particularly like the 4895's H and IMR, Varget,(IMR4064 not fast but accurate),H414,and IMR4350. H380 never seems to shoot for me but I have buddies swear by it same with 760. An accurate 250 seems to like most everything. My recomendation for one hole groups is spend a lot of time on the cases, segeragate em by weight , ream flash holes, uniform primer pockets. Doesnt do much on an 1 1/2 inch shooter but if it shoots .5's it'll help get to .2's-- Good shooting to all.---Shoot Safe---montdoug

On Friday, April 25, got back a Remington Model Seven that I had a #3 contour, 24" 22-250 barrel installed on. BTW, Benchmark Barrels in Arlington WA did the work and they did a fine job too.

Choose to try 55gr Hornady V-Max and Reloader 15. Started with 32 grains and loaded 5 rounds of 32, 33, 34, 35 each. I cleaned the barrel after each round on the first 10 rounds I used at 25 yards. Then I cleaned the barrel after each group of 5 rounds I fired for each incremental load of powder.

After getting the rifle onto paper at 25 yards I moved the target out to 100 yards. Wasn't impressed with the groups I got from 32 or 33 grains. But the load with 34 grains was what I was looking for. The first two rounds went into the same hole, the next two were about 1/4" away opening the group up to 1/2". The fifth round opened the group up to 3/4".

I think I will stick with 34 grains of Reloader 15 and the 55 gr Hornady V-Max bullet. This load should provide MOC. (Minute of Coyote [Big Grin]

36.5 Varget, 52 gr Sierra Match King, Norma brass and WLR primers gives consistent sub 1/2 inch groups in my M70 Stealth.

I've got a fully stock Model 70 Stealth with 1/14 twist. It likes 36.0gr of IMR4895 behind a 50gr Sierra Varminter. Sub 1/2 MOA is the norm.

That load is seated a ways off the lands. The first loads i tried were seated close, like .010". Then i worked in closer without any improvement. I then tried backing that bullet off the lands and it all came together!! [Big Grin]

My .22-250Rem. is an old Savage 110, with a Hart SS 26" barrel in a Fagen Varmint stock. It's glass bedded and floated with the trigger lightened. I load it with 34.1gr. of IMR4064 pushing the Sierra 52gr. HPBT. If I do my part it'll often print 5 shots into .25". It also shoots accurately with Nosler 50 and 55gr. Bal.Tip. In fact the Noslers are the only non HPs I shoot. The only problem is it weighs about 13lbs. I'm going to look pretty silly on my woodchuck hunts pulling my red gold cart through the fields. But boy it does shoot. Best wishes.

Told to me by a good friend- 38.0 gr. 748, Sierra 52 gr. HP, CCI primer. 3600 FPS plus out of Rem. 700VS. .2 to .3 all day long. I like 748 because it makes loading several hundred rounds go by very quickly. Nevey would have tried it unless somebody hadn't told me to, though.

Another good load. Sierra 53 gr HP, 33.0 Gr. IMR 3031, Rem 9 1/2. Has shot great in several guns.
don't remember velocity.

Have also had good luck with IMR4064 and 55gr balistic tips.

35.0 gr. H4895 and either Sierra or Nosler Bt 55gr bullets. I use Rem 250 Sav. cases necked down with WW WLR or Rem 9 1/2 primers. Cases are match prepped by uniforming the primer pockets, drilling the flash holes, trimming the case mouth square and chamfering. Load shoots under .5 moa if I do my part for 5 shot groups at 100 yds. I got similar sized groups with 50 gr. Speer TNTs, but got higher velocities and better load to load consistency with the 55 gr. bullets. Standard deviations in velocity were much lower with the 55 gr. bullets.

After trying most of these mine seems to like the heavier bullets (55) best ,but thats ok I have some impresive 200 yrd groups ...thanks again for all the help IT SURE IS FUN TRYING THEM ALL [Smile]

Hunt4ever, I got my son that same rifle, and I've tried various amounts of varget with 55 VMAXs, got a couple fair groups, so I switched to 50 VMAXs and H380 and have some Varget loaded up also, to see If it works better with the 50s, will try them out Sunday If weather permits, have tried Varget with the 50s about .40" off the lands getting no better than .836", but was told by Bob from Hornady I should try seating them deeper for better neck tension, so now they're .100" off the lands, I'll post my results and the load that was the most accurate since were using the same rifle, no Shilen barrel here. Jay.

I too, am looking for that one hole group,...but in that quest I've discovered something, my 700 VLS seems to shoot everything reasonably well. I don't know the velocity, but I'm getting 3/4" groups on average. Needs some fine tuning true enough, but what a start.

I'm currently using IMR 4895...it really is a "universal" powder.
1)55gr. Sierra #1390
2)35.5 IMR 4895
3)W-W case WLR primer
4)COL: 2.350"

I do not own, nor have I ever even fired a .22-250. But doesn't the powder "H380" get its name from Bruce Hodgdon's discovery of the "ultimate" load for the .22-250 as using 38.0 grains of that powder with a 52-grain bullet?

P-17 your homework on the H-380 powder designation is correct. My particular 22-250 will not perform well with H-380 powder, but many do.

Packrat, velocity for that load should be around 3,636 Fps. give or take some. Try playing with seat depth, some times 250's will shoot better with the bullet set back from the lands just a little. But every rifle has its on preference so the only way to tell is experiment with it. Also try a few nosler solid base 55 grain in it. They are a harder bullet and want deform as bad when engaging the lands. Also they seen to like the hotter loads.
