Paul HAnyone want to run a quickload calc?
There isn't much data for the 500 Jeffrey, and I haven't seen any for reduced loads with cast bullets. The only thing I found was for IMR 7828, 100 grs drives a 570 gr 1650 fps.
I'm looking for a load that will drive a 600 gr cast 1700-1800 fps with near 100% load density. The bullets will be loaded below the neck into the case by ~.25"
I'll likely start with the 7828 data from the A-sq manual, but would like some other powder options.

krakyPaul--I think one of the reasons for no response is that quickload doesn't really work up loads for cast bullets. I don't have any experience with them myself--what parameters would we use to make the jacketed bullet info be what you can use??

Paul Hkraky,
I believe that cast bullet loads are very close to jacketed loads. I know I'm looking at mild pressures, so even if the pressure is 5k higher then calculated, I'll still be 10k under max pressure, if not more.
Thanks

krakyWhat the heck bullet diameter does it shoot? I couldn't find much for bullets around .500". Sorry to be so dumb--my exotics are weatherbies!!

MingbogoIt is .510 diameter. See if you can find the bullet library for Woodleigh. It should have some 570-grain projectiles in there. Have fun.

krakyOK--i hope you can use this--I asked quickload to find us something going 1900 fps with a 570 woodleigh in a 500 jeffrey rimless. I figured about 1900fps cause I thought the cast bullet would be slower. Note fill ratio's are pretty ideal for such slow powder AND pressure is very low.
RE25 89% fill 117.9 grains 25K press.
h4831sc 85% fill 117.1 grains 27K
I7828 88% fill 115.4 grains 26K
H1000 91% fill 124.9 grains 27K
By the way--as a cross check I asked quickload how fast that 570 woodleight would go with 100 grains of 7828 and it forcast 1638 fps--thats pretty close to the data you mentioned. Hope this helps

Mingbogokraky,
You did good work my friend! It looks like any of those slow burning powders is fine for a reduced load. I personally like H4831sc myself. Have fun guys!

jeffeossoPaul,
you could do 86 gr of rl15 with a filler, as it's 65%. 24k, 1875fps with woodliegh 570s.

NitromanWhen using the H870, H1000 or H5010 besure to check the bore since they leave a great deal of unburned powder in there.
