Backworth BobAbreviations????
Abreviations.
I enjoy reading the”old” posts on all of the forums linked on AR and have learned a great deal from them.
However, I do struggle with abbreviations (shown in block capital letters) commonly used in the posts. I am a British citizen and I live in the United Kingdom and as such I do not get much exposure to your hunting language outside of this forum. I guess it is also an age thing as well, as I do not understand much of the text language messages I receive on my mobile phone.
Here are a few examples of what I need help with:-
IMO
IMHO
DRT
PITA
FWIW
Could someone explain the above, and any others commonly used that I have missed, without causing too much offence if they are all swear words.
Thank you
Backworth Bob

Winchester 69IMO - in my opinion
IMHO - in my honest opinion
DRT - ?
PITA - pain in the ass
FWIW - for what it's worth
Sorry about DRT.
The one I can't decipher is YMMV. Means "your results may vary;" it just isn't spelled that way. Help?

Allan DeGrootIIRC: If I Recall Correctly
and yes, YMMV is indeed "Your Mileage May Vary"
as derived from the legal disclaimer included by law
when the fuel economy of a car is mentioned (also
required by law) in an advertisement for an automobile.
there are also variations on PITA

GerryThen there's the OOC series.....they run the gamut from,
OOC = Out of Control
MOOC = Marginally Out of Control
ROOC = Really Out of Control
SOOC = Simply Out of Control
to
TFOOC = Totally F****** Out of Control
You can get a lot of milage out of the OOC series - just use your imagination and add about any adjective, adverb or expletive you desire.
During my time in the military the favorite for the NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) was
HMFIC = Head M***** F*****-In-Charge
followed by,
IDGAFS = I don't give a flying S***

miles58I used to put down CHMF for my title on stuff I was suspicious of generating junk mail. Whe it began to inevitably spawn LOTS of junk mail at work and the girl from the mail room wanted to know what CHMF stood for I quit doing that.
