I recently acquire a 1908 Mannlicher Schoenauer in 8 x 56 M S, but I cant find info for reload it.
Any advice will be welcome, I use IMR 30 31 and IMR 40 64, here in Mexico is hard to find Powder.
I don´t know if the 8 x 57 mauser recipes will be to hot for the mannlicher.

For many years I had a 1908 # 9696. I used the 8 mm 175 sierra flat base spire point and the Speer 200 flat base spire point, loaded with IMR 4064 in line with the loads above for eastern whitetail with very nice results. Good shooting.

first, nice rifle...very nice!

second .323" diameter bullets may not give the best accuracy because the 8x56r bore is listed as .329". diameter.

.338" bullets can be lubed well and pushed through a reloading press mounted lee .329" cast-bullet sizer die to reduce their diameter...or bullets of the proper diameter from hornady may be ordered from graf and sons.

This is some what of a surprise as the Cartridges of the World lists the bullet dia as .324. Can you suggest another reference calling out the larger dia. bullet? thanks! roger

I'm waiting for my CH dies, allready have a box of Sierra 150 grain .323 bullets. As far as I know the 8 x 56 MS use .323 diameter bullets. I check an old Shooters bible and Catridges of the world book and both mark a .323 bullet.

Budman is refering to the 8 x 56 R that is a different caliber.
Mannlicher Schoenauer 1908 carbines are 8 x 56 MS.

Don't know what your source or availability of brass is, but Quality Cartridge is making brass for it that is properly headstamped.

I have a rifle exactly like yours, and like it quite a lot. Norma makes a nice 196 grain bullet as well, if you have access to them.

Yup

8x56R Hungarian Mannlicher (.329" bore) is NOT the same caliber as 8x56 Mannlicher Schoenauer.

I`ve just receive a die set from CH, also a trimming die, the base reducing die is in back order, so with a lot of lube and patience I mange to resize a box of 30-06 to 8x56 MS, the result is nice ready 8 x 56 Mannlicher rounds.

My start load is 42 grains of IMR 3031, with a sierra spitzer of 150 grains in .323

This saturday I will shoot the rifle and see how it groups. The rifle is know 101 years old.

I have owned 2 different 1908 Mannlicher-Schoenauers at different times and both had grooves measuring 0.328". Both were identical to the one shown except they both had the early claw mount bases. I sent one to Bob Snapp and had him rebore it to 9x57 Mauser, then made some claw rings to fit the bases and enjoyed it; the other I shot with 0.323" bullets and it did OK. My friend George the Knifemaker has a 1908 that he rechambered to 8x57 Mauser, apparently quite successfully.

BTW I also own a German 1888 Commmision Rifle, the 'S' version, and it too has grooves measuring 0.328". Needless to say I was surprised to find such large-dia barrels in these rifles, but upon reflection I surmise that many of the early European riflemakers may have made the 8mm barrels in larger dimensions back when it was loaded with heavy-fouling powder, in order that the military rifles be able to keep shooting even when heavily fouled. I haven't encountered such an oversize bore in anything except these rifles and some US military rifles chambered in 45-70.
