.

Take a pound of H4831 and dump it in
a bowl. Fill your case full of powder
and scrape the case mouth level with a
straight edge. Seat your 130 grain bullet.

That's about how easy it is to get a good
load with a 270 !

while not the style of reloading I choose this post is actually not too far from the truth.... and I'll bet more than a few have actually done this.

Today I'm using H-4350

50 gr IMR4895 130 gr Ballistic Tip, 2900 fps 22" barrel.

It knocks down deer at 500 yards with a terminal velocity of 1800 fps.

With a 200 yard zero, just aim a couple feet over the deer's back.

I have three 270s. Two of them are fine with 60.0 H4831 (3100+fps). The third must have an oversize chamber because it wants 62.0 to reach the same velocities and has loose primer pockets by the fifth loading. All of them shoot well. At 62.0 I need a 6" drop tube and must pour the powder very slowly to get it all in the case.

Shooting this load out of a 22" barrel and over a Chronograph, the 130 grainers are getting 3170 fps. I think that this older Ruger M77 must have a large chamber as I thought the velocity would be higher than it is. This load was the best combo of velocity and accuracy that I came up with for this rifle. It is not a real tack driver with groups in the 1.5"-1.85" range but has taken quite a few mule deer and elk with that combo.

Rl22 is the speed king in my 270win.

62gr of RL22 under a 130gr Barnes TSX gets me just over 3225fps, but I get horizontal stringing, so I had to settle for 60.5gr H4831sc and 3150fps with excellent accuracy.

59.5 gr IMR 7828 for ~3040 fps. Not the fastest but the most accurate.
