I ask everybody I meet: is obama firearms owners worst enemy; or is it the price gouging firearms industry...?

So far it's a dead heat. Both are trying to keep us from shooting as much as we used to.

I guess it depends on what you are reloading.
5 cents per primer isn't a killer when premium bullets are running up to a buck a peice these days.
Try finding Berdan primers for the old English stuff and the five cents is downright theft!

I hate it though too.

I was pleasantly shocked when I went to Academy earlier this week. The week beofre I had picked up 100 WSP primers for $10.00 at the local gun store. About a month ago they were $4-6 there. Anyway, I strolled into Academy and low and behold they had reloading supplies for sale. I hadn't seen that before. WSP primers for $3.99/100. A whole herd of Hornady stuff for sale as well including a wide selection of bullets, dies, presses, etc all of which appeared reasonably/normally priced. The guys on the floor said powder sales are supposed to be in the works. I picked up 400 primers ie. four boxes of 100, so I can finish loading the cast bullets I have for my .40. If Academy were publicly traded I would invest.

Im pretty new to this and I have been buying primers @ 35.99 per 1000. Were they cheaper at one point in time?

Also found this nifty site. Tells you what stores have primers in stock and their price. Not sure how up to date it really is and you have to mail order. Still might be useful to someone here.

The last rifle primers I bought were $10.00/thousand.

eric; welcome; I started buying primers at $4 a thousand (Herters; I am sure you have never heard of them; Google it). And have not bought any above 15.

Mr. Leeton, If you had been in Academy the week b/4, you would have gotten those primers for 3.99 per thousand. Some lady ahead of me bought 20,000 at that price. Then the jig was up.

Ive fired some Herter's ammo. I got some .223 and it seemed to work fine. Holy cow..so primers used to be 10 to 15$ per 1000 on the high end?? Well, even at 35$, its still better than getting raped for a 20$ box of 50 9mm I guess Frowner

I still have a few hundred Herter's primers squirreled away. That Herters branded ammo today is just repackaged commy junk.

If you like old Herter's junk primers so much I have 600 or 700 some place. I think I have had 90 percent miss fires with the ones I tried.

Sell them really cheap the Haz Mat fee is 100 times more then what they are worth.

Like most stuff from the old Herter's lots of hype and little quality.

Old George Lenard sure had a line of BS made his catalogs fun reading.

Bwahaha.

George Herter was an instrumental person in leading me down this road of ruin.

I remember when I was 8 or 9 (the years we lived in this particular old house) and I had taken a shower and Mom was doing laundry and she apparently was doing towels. Anyway, I was trapped in the bathroom and when I asked how much longer the towels would take my Dad opened the door and handed me the Herters Catalog....

I would rather look at the Herters Catalog than the Christmas wish book. Spent many an hour. Not only gun stuff but got me into fly tying as well.

It sure made interesting reading. I bought some stuff from them. That is until I learned better and had a few more coins. I still have some of it and use it from time to time

Wished I could buy a 1967 big block Corvette with side pipes for $5,000, but it ain't gonna happen.
If you need the primers pay the price. Think the last 10,000 I bought cost me about $35 per 1,000. We waste far more money on other stupid shitSmiler

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I feel the need to one up everyone here.... Ran across a guy on armslist selling 1000 small rifle primers for 100$ PLUS shipping. I emailed and asked if it was a typo and he said no. He justified his price by saying .223 costs 1.25$ a round so 10 cents for a primer is more than fair....
