I been loading now for more then 40 plus years, but it comes to mind why some bullet company use a certain brand of powder with there bullets and other do not test there bullets with the same powder.
example: Speer 105 grain SP
I also see there newer manuals are about 10 percent less then the older manuals
They show no loads with let say IMR 3031 4895 4064
Sierra on the other hand will show test loads with the above powders.k. the bullet they show is 100grain SP flat base and the same bullet with a BTSP.
I wonder is it is safe to use the sierra manual loads with the 105 grain Speer bullets
I would like to here what you reloaders have to say about it?
I trying to set up a 243 with a 1 in 9 1/2 barrrel twist for next year deer season
I have in mind speer 105 SP bullet hot core
Sierra SBT 100 grain
Powder IMR4895 4350 4064 4831
Powder Rel 19
Powder H-4350 H-4831

I am leaning more for the 4350 only because I also reload for the 7mm-08

I check speer manual funny they only show IMR 4350,4831
with there 105 grain bullet
The sierra has more to offer using IMR powders they show 3031 4895 4064 I don't understand why one bullet company almost using the same bullet has a large spread when it come to loads with different powders

That's how I use them when substituting Sierra bullets for Speer manual data.Start low and work up looking for pressure signs.

Sierra 100gr. GK or Pro-Hunters with IMR 4350 42.0 gr. works great in my rifle. You should start out a few grains lower and work up.

You can not go wrong with this advise!

Remember to keep detailed notes on your loads and shots. I also keep my targets with the notes. Some people I know will punch it all in to a laptop and also scan the targets onto the pc. Megabits are easier to keep then larger paper targets.
