Powder substitution
Wondering if someone can recommend a Hodgdon or IMR powder and beginning load to substitute for ..

Vith 140...43gr and

Vith 130...56gr

Getting any powder on the east coast right now
is pretty difficult.

JonP, it would help if you gave the cartridge and bullet weight.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

JonP as noted a bit more info would be helpful so we can be more helpful.

Vihtavuori 130 is #77 on my burning rate chart falling between Alliant Reloader #10X and IMR 3031.

Vihtavuori 140 is #98 on my burning rate chart falling between Alliant Rloader #15 and Hogdon Varget.

You cannot use Burn Rate data for powder substitution. At best you can draw info on powders that might be useful. Only by referencing published data can you verify that a given powder is applicable, but I am sure you know that.

Vith 130...56gr

I was able to get some Jaguar bullets from Germany. Their recommended powder and load for the

7x57R with their 117 grain bullet is

Vith 140...43gr and

9.3x62 with 188 grain bullet is

Vith 130...56gr

Probably safe to look at Barnes 120 grain for reference for the 7x57R but couldn't find a similar load for the 9.3.
