A powder baffle has only one function, to keep the weight of powder consistant at the metering drum. You can do the same thing yourself by keeping the powder level close to the same. I personally have not found a baffle all that useful. I took the baffle out of my Harrels. I consistant, repeatable rhythm is the key.

I agree that the baffle has marginal usefulness but would prefer having one than not.

I use an OLD Redding powder measure, and use a 4-5 inch wide, aluminum funnel as a powder baffel. I just put it in the top of the measure and fill the measure with powder, and then have a supply of powder that feeds in as each charge is taken out. works well for me, and is very cheap. wave

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

neat idea.

I fashion mine from reverse domed plastic bottle bottoms, two nails and a straw in my vintage 1957 Redding and a new Lee.Must admit though that I may be using a funnel real soon. thumbroger

I made one for my RCBS Uniflow. Used a Copenhagen lid. Fold it in half and cut an elipse such that when unfolded to about a 90 degree angle it fits in the hopper well enough to not leak powder. At that point trim a piece off the corner of the folded edge to let powder through. Obviously there is nothing sacred about Copenhagen lids. A piece of aluminum can or maybe even plastic or cardboard would work.

I made mine out of a beer can. Worked just fine. You can also make one out od a proper sized washer. I did that on a pacific powder measure I had.

I measure most of my rifle loads and then weigh all of those again. Out of the Saeco measure the weights the same even if the measure is almost empty. Other things matter however like how you work the lever or if a grain is cut and that rocks the boat.

I bought a new Lyman PM which included a baffle. I found it, quite frankly, a "bloody nusiance" when I finished reloading and tried to empty the PM completely. I took it out and still throw consistant loads. I just fill the measure with a lot more powder than I really need.

Yep! but its new again!
It doesn't matter how you do it but keeping the measure at a consistant level will give you more consistant charges. I have tested both of my scales and found it to be true with my gear.
RCBS - micrometer adjustable
Lyman 55 - triple slide metered adjustable

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

As ite man said, measure a load from a full

Big supprise if you can see a difference.
Good Luck!
