Working with 357 and 44 Mag loads, I bought some Hodgodon HS-7 powder as it was mentioned in my 12th Edition Speer Reloading Manual.

When bought more updated reloading manuals by the other bullet companies (Sierra and Hornady), they do not recommend HS-7 for the magnum pistols. Even looking at Hodgdon's website, or the latest Hodgdon Annual Handloading Magazine shows no such loads.

What changed?

they quit making that powder.

HS6 for 38/357 and 45 ACP. HC-110 is specifically formulated for 44 magnum and similar loads.

I've loaded 44 mag with 2300, but HC-110 provides higher velocities at lower pressures.

Win. 231 is similar to HS 6. Both seem to load everything in pistol cal. well and most excellent.

I stay away from the "hot" stuff like Bullseye, Red/Blue Dot.

HS-7 is the same spec powder as WW-571, a powder generally used for 20 and 28 gauge loads and magnum 12 gauge loads. It is also adaptable to medium to heavy handgun loads, but has been discontinued for quite some time. Wheredja find it?

Yeah, I was just getting to like it & they discontinued it. The latest SPeer manual still has some data for the 44mag, 40, 10mm (my fav powder there) heavy 45colt & 357mag.

I also use it for my 1 5/8 no.5 shot turkey loads.It took a while to find that,so I went out and found 4 or 5 cans for the rest of my life.
