Is it possible they might be .285" not .284"? That would make them good for a 7x64 as well.....

You think a mere 0.001" of difference in bullet diameter makes one bullet suitable, whereas the other is not?? In the case of cast bullets, perhaps. But I have not found this to be true for jacketed projectiles. For example, I have two different rifles with a .311" groove diameter which shoot .308" bullets very accurately!
An Argentine Mauser (7.65X54mm) with both Nosler Partition and Sierra 200-grain .308" bullets @ 100 meters.

Sorry friend....I see nothing strange about this.

Eldeguello,
The rifles you are using with .308 bullets all have the same bore diameter as the .308 - 7.62mm. The groove diameters vary from 7.82mm for the .308 to 7.92mm for your rifles. With .308 bullets accuracy should be good and speed will be down by a small amount if at all.
The bore/groove diameters for a typical .284" barrel are 7.04/7.21mm and for a typical .285" barrel they are 6.98/7.24mm. This is enough to start making a difference especially if the barrel dimensions are less than perfect, which they often are.
You are right in saying that it is less important when using jacketed lead bullets as opposed to monometallic bullets.
Edited
Correction: The 7.65 x 54 is bore/groove 7.65/7.92mm

3584ELKVapodog,
Granted, the term may be used elsewhere, but as I explained in an email to this fella, I believe it starts with the misnomer of calling a cartridge a "bullet". Therefore, the end, or head, must be a "bullet head", right? I thought it was amusing.
