EMC2RL-15 or 4895 for the .308 Win Target?
Folks,
I'm currently loading BL-(C)2 for a 24" target barrel Savage 110FP-LE2. I'm having good results, but the vel is a little low for longer ranges (approx 2450fps) and I'd like to kick it up a bit.
Your thoughts are appreciated

fredj338I've found RL15 to give a bit more vel., as much as 100fps+, over 4895. It's a very good powder in 08 based cases for a wide variety of bullet weights.

molar1Give IMR-4064 a try. It has produced top accuracy in a few of my 308's.

GSP7Ive been useing R15 in my 308 with good accuracy. R15 shows the most velosity on most the reloading data with 165gr+ bullets also.
I have some imr4895 but havent used it in my 308. I was going to try some 4064 just to experiment some more

seafire/B17GWell, the Marine Corp rifle team was using a load of RL 15 and a 175 grain Sierra Match bullet....
Since they can have about anything they want.. and they picked RL 15... well that is a pretty strong endorsement in my book...

Alaska Bush ManIMR 4895 used it for years for match shooting in the 308 Win...43.6 with 168 MK excellent load.....2600FPS.
Reloader 15 is also a excellent powder. Just because the military uses it, doesn't mean its the best. Alot of politics involved.
Varget is the most preferred on the Palma Matches in the 308 Win....I have had best results with CCI Br2 in Palma Match Brass for my shooting....highly recommend in the 308 Win.
IMR 4895 @ 43.6 with 168 MK and Fed 210M prmimers or....
45.0 of Varget with 175 MK
44.2 of Varget with 180 BT
CCI Br2 Primers
