Hornady or Norma Brass for 404 Jeffery
I will be taking delivery in the next few weeks of a 404 Jeffery. Available brass seems to be either Norma or Hornady. Looking to load North Fork solids and softs. Any thougths on which brass I should use?

Who knows if any Norma product is going to be found in stock at any given time? I would skip Norma and stick with Hornady.

I've always used RWS brass for my 404 but do have some Norma made Parker Hale head-stamped brass too and I have never lost one yet thru neck splitting. I get really long life from all my brass by annealing the neck area every couple of reloads. Simple and easy process using my own made case holder for use in a slow turning battery drill and small propane torch to heat the neck area only. Whatever brand you go with I certainly would recommend annealing for longevity.

I use the Hornady brass in my 404 Jeff and have found it to be of very good quality. I think I'm on the 6th or 7th loading and it still is fine. I load the 400 grain bullets to about 2300 fps so the pressure is relatively low. Nothing wrong with the Hornady 404 brass.

I have RWS and Norma brass and some of my Norma brass has had 13 firings and like Eagle I also anneal (but use a deep socket for a case holder) but I also had my FLS die opened up in the neck so that the case was only sized down enough to not need an expander other than an M die to just ensure roundness.Partial FLS as well so it is obvious that these are not for use off the practice range except for a onetime bomb-up on a mob of goats. dancing

While I normally use Norma brass for my various wildcats. I've also had great results with Hornady. For the $ difference I would try the Hornady.

As usual just my $.02
