Walter's Magic On The 30/404!
Gentlemen,

We had to finish this barrel at 27 1/5 inches, as his lordship made those funy looking rings around the end of it.

He also decided to paint it metalic red, as you can see here.

We have decided to stick to the 180 grain bullets, from different makers, and see how they perform on game animals when we go in June.

I will post all the details when we are through testing.

So fat the fastest load was 3679 fps, and the most accurate was 0.284"

3679 fps! You'd better stick to monometal bullets to have any chance of penetration. I don't believe a Swift would stand up to that!

You reckon the barrel will last the hunting trip?

Good luck my friend!

Don my friend,

I have tried Nosler Partition, and Barnes X so far. The X shot very poorly.

I am going to try some A-Frames next, and go on to Match Kings

I will post the details.

Saeed, you should warn us when we need sunglasses to look at a picture.

Saeed now Walters gone & done it! Utilizing a relatively unknown & secret Master Gunsmith technique to dampen the harmonic vibrations of the barrel. Everyone is going to want those grooves on their barrel.(Thanks for the business Walter) by the way did Walter have anything to do with spiral fluting? I just know that Walter painted the barrel with a temperature sensitive paint that goes through color changes as the barrel heats up so that you know at what temprature you get the best groups. How else could you be getting that size group!

Saeed,
Sounds like you should try the GS Custom HV's. What twist rate do you have on that tube? Gerard suggests a 1 in 9" twist for his 173 gr HV and a 1 in 10" twist for his 160 gr HV.

Dave,

I think this barrel has a 10 twist.

I think I do have one box of Gerard's bullets in this calibe.

He kindly sent it to me a while ago.

This might be a perfect opportunity to test them.

I am not sure of the weight of the bullets though.
