I have a new CZ550 LUX and am having a hard time finding reasonably priced ammo for it. I have friends who reload but are not familiar with this cal. What is a good load for this round for deer and for plains game up to oryx and kudu sized animals ? Which bullets are you finding good accuracy from in the 100 to 200 yard range ? Thanks.....eric

Well, simply because of cost and availability, mostly I use the Speer 270 bullet and H414 powder. They seem to work well together, and in my rifle I get 2600 fps which is all I can use. Manual max load is 60 gr I believe. - Dan

My CZ-550 American has shot well with all of the bullets I've tried in it, but the very best groups ( 1/2" center to center) have been with the 250 Barnes X bullet , Lapua cases, WLR primers and 59.0 of RL-15...

I also got good hunting accuracy from the 270 Speer and the 250 Nosler Ballistic tip, with RL-15, H-414, and IMR 4064....

Eric,

my suggestion would be a Alaska 286 gr or Oryx 286 gr from Norma. If you can get Norma powder over there, youll find some loads at www.norma.cc. The finnish www.vihtavuori.fi also have some good loads.

The 9.3x62 is a big game classic for moose, bear, boar and deer here in Scandinavia. Power enough and still estimable recoil. You will love that rifle.

Best regards,

Fritz

Based on a whole 1 deer a buddy shot with his Steyr in 9.3x62, I'd say, the 270 Speer is fine on deer & whatnot, but I'd use the Barnes-X (250 or 286), Nosler Partition (286), or Swift A-Frames (250 & 300, I think) on bigger critters. Oh, and Ray will take us to task if we don't mention the 320 Woodleigh.

The 286 grain bullet made the 9.3x62's reputation, and I wish Hornady would produce a good 286 round nose for the cartridge.

The Nosler 250 Ballistic Tip should be a dandy bullet for any shot on deer & such, and for lung shots on bigger things. The B-Tips over .30 caliber have a much stouter jacket than the 30-and-under sizes.
