Rob1SGChecked the manuals of Nosler,Speer, and Hodgdon. Looks like its to slow for the 35's expansion ratio.

ricciardelliH-4350 is not really a suitable powder for the .35 Whelen...

<bigdog>Mike,
I believe that H4350 will be too slow for the Whelen.
I have tested many powders and find the following to be the best with 225-250 gr bullets. In order of prference; RL15, VV 550, Varget,H4895, AA2015BR, and AA2495BR. These really make the Whelen sing.
I do have a question? Has anyone used H414 in a Whelen?
My 2 cents

sdgunslingerI tried IMR 4350 in my Whelen . I got some loads for it and H 414 out of an old Handloader article by Layne Simpson . He got some pretty decent speed out of these , around 2570 fps , but it didn't work in my rifle . It has a pretty long throat and you simply can't get enough of the slow stuff in there to build up much speed , this with 250 gr bullets . I was able to get to 2400 fps with 4350 and WW 760 with all the powder it is possible to cram into the case . RL 15 beats the slower stuff badly . Possibly these slow numbers could work better in a rifle with a tighter throat ......
As far as the lighter slugs go , I think you would find 4350 and it's relatives to be very unsuitable .....
