I'm looking to reload some 44 spls but would like full wadcuters, but cant find any ? Who makes them or any one here cast them ? Ans what would be a good start load for this ?

Savage99Why do you want wadcutters? The Keith style bullets have a wadcutter type cutting ability and thats why they are called semi wadcutters.
You can also shoot regular bullets backwards to make them into a wadcutter.
I am using enough 231 to push a 250 SWC at 950 out of a 7.5" barrel. The load is a little stiff for fun. While it's accurate I may cut it down some.
The manuals are full of loads.

Borealis BobSavage99...
Wadcutters make for a nice, accurate target load. Lot's of folks use them in .38 special. Loading a bullet backwards doesn't provide the same results.
Short44....
I haven't found any, either, but haven't specifically looked for them in a while. Would be great to get some. BTW, welcome aboard.

Jim in IdahoBoy, you're not kidding they are hard to find. A wadcutter is a pretty specialized target bullet and most anybody shooting bullseye targets will use a .32, .38 or .45, holdovers from the old three gun match days.
Here's a link to the only mold I found, but admittedly did not a huge extensive search of the web.

Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery!
Hit the target, all else is twaddle.

Savage99Boralis,
I know what wadcutters are for and how the shoot. I was just suggesting some alternatives that I have tested that make wadcutter type holes in paper.
My favorite SWC mold is the one Saeco makes for the .45 Colt. I have not looked to see if they make a .44 version. The meplat on that Saeco bullet is so wide.

short44Its not for paper, This is for very short range hunting (20 - 50 feet) on armodillos, I know any 44 cal will hit hard but a VERY wide to totaly flat matplat would be best for a slow load like 700 fps, I think that mold over at MIDWAY USA would be just what I was looking for. Thanks

fredj338Here you go short, a perfect armadillo/target bullet. The cost isn't bad either. If you want to roll your own, Redding & Lee make WC molds.

HammerShort44,
Lee used to make a 44 caliber mold for a 116 grain wadcutter. Got one.
Think they made another one about 160 +/- grains.

For those who have never tried it - the SWC punches a full caliber hole in paper AND animals .It also has much better ballistic coefficient than the WC. You ought to read Elmer Keith's "Sixguns" he explains in detail the 'Keith" SWC bullet.
