How to trim 500 S&W brass?
Hi Guys:

How are you guys trimming S&W 500 50 caliber pistol brass?

I ordered the brass from Midway, but my Forster lathe is to small, its cutting edge fits inside a 50 call shell..???

Hornady case trimmers cutter goes up to 50 caliber, but Hornady uses specail shell holders and I didn't see any in 50 cal S&W..

Lee hand trimmers..??? What do I use?

Regards...

JimP.

Are your cases growing? I've found straightwall pistol cases usually don't grow on sizing and hence don't require trimming.

Lee can custom make the depth studs for their case trimmers, and they now offer a larger cutter for the big bores.

Hi Paul:

No my cases are not growing yet, but I assume they would after resizing a few times..

I have always trimmed my cases to be the same lenght, even with new brass, but you do have a good point about straight wall pistol cases not streching much.

I will just get the Lee Hand trimmer instead. I just found them in Midway for th 500 S&W..

Some of my 480 cases have 30 loads through them, and I've yet to trim them. Straightwall cases that aren't oversized and don't have a neck expander run through them simply don't seem to grow.
