A friend was here yesterday.

I was was working on shortening a barrel on a 223 for another friend.

This one apparently had nothing to do, as he got himself a large coffee from a new coffee machine we have, and started looking at my reloading dies.

He said "I stopped counting when I got to 400! Why do you have so many dies for so many cartridges? Half of them I have never even heard of before?"

I said "I need to keep Alzheimer off, and for that I have to keep my brains working on new things"

"Yes. As Suwaidan said 'if we shake you b your feet, lead pellets would come out of your ear holes' hahahaha"

Do you use all of them, or are you just 'prepared'?

Every one has been used.

But some are no longer in use, as we do not have a rifle in that caliber here.

We used to dream up a new wildcat every other day!

Just for the heck of it.

We buy the closest die to it, and modify it ourselves.

Many of these dies are really useless to anyone else.

I suppose I'd have to search the site to understand what you mean by "we". Would you care to explain?

Just a bunch of people who have been enjoying shooting since we learnt to walk.

That possibly explains why you need to reload so many calibres - because you can't buy factory ammo for some of them.

And here I thought I was doing good with 50.

Ok, that is a lot. I though I was doing good with 72; yes you made me go in and count them.

I sell the dies when I'm no longer using them. The only possibility of a mistake is the 7 x 57. I'm getting a bad case of the wants, trying to resist.

I sell them with the rifle if I think I will no longer use that caliber again. And YES, it has backfired a few times!

Saeed, how many cartridges do you guys load for in your shop?

Stopping at 400- are you saying the guy has issues with math or that you load for 400 different rounds?

I've been loading since 1972 + I have no idea how many sets of dies I own. I have always loved working with wildcats + trying to reinvent the wheel + in the past I could order direct from RCBS custom dies for any project. The last time I called RCBS they told me that those days were over.

Frankly, I have no idea how many cartridges we have loaded for, and still have the dies.

M<any were just one off, done on a whim.

We make our own dies, from other cartridges which are close.

Like many of our wildcats, Wilson case trimmer holders don't fit them, so we modify these.

We buy these in large numbers - like the 222, 308, 30-06 and so on.

When we have a cartridge that does not fit, we modify the dies or case holders.

We have a number of special dues made by Neil Jones.
