UPDATE! Am I wasting my time with RE19 for the 6mmRem. W/ 87HPBT....
Or, should I go with RE22 as per Steve's pages suggestion for 85-87gr bullets?
Have some RE19 that was bought by my mistake, needed RE22 instead. Well, wanted to try it for the 6mm, anyway. Then I saw Steve's pages that RE22 was the best powder for that bullet. I know that it's not going to work for all rifles, just don't like to waste bullets and powder. Nosler info I've got says RE19 was the best all-around powder for the 6mm, course they don't use RE22 for all bullets. Thanks, Jay

Jay,

YOU looking for max velocity or just accuracy????

I use RL 19 for the heavier bullets for target work, long range that is ( 107 Sierra, and 105 and 115 Bergers).....

For accuracy in mine, H 414 can't be beat! I tested 18 different powders.... The rifle shot almost all of them more than prairie dog accuracy at 350 yds! However one could not argue with continual one hole groups out of H 414 with 75, 80, 85 , 87 and 90 grain bullets! CCi Large Rifle primers and Winchester 6mm Rem brass on a Remington 700 Long Action....

A second one I had built for a nephew on an Enfield Action with a heavy bull barrel with a one in 7 twist gets the same results....

cheers

Seafire, Always looking for accuracy over velocity, to a point anyway. With a high BC bullet it really doesn't matter, cuz they always overtake a low BC bullet at longrange.
I got good results with the 95VLD and 760, so I know where you're coming from with H414, though I only had H4350 on hand to compare it with. The only thing is, I don't care for ball powders, but if it was really accurate, who cares. Got some 760 on hand, may try some if worse comes to worse.
Have you ever tried the H414 in different temps to see if there's a difference? Thanks, Jay

I would use Rel-19 with the heavier 100gr. bullets in the 6mm Rem., but for bullets from 70-85grs. I get my best results from IMR4064 and IMR4895. Rel-19 might work fairly well since the 6mm Rem has a fairly large case, but I wouldn't bet on top accuracy with it. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.

I know, you'd think that a faster burning powder would work better with lighter bullets, but then I look at my Nosler info from my "Complete reloading manual for the 244/6mmRem" and Nosler gets the best accuracy for their 70BT with N160, IMR4831 w/85Partition, RE19 w/95/100grs. 760 w/55BTs.
Steve's pages got the best accuracy with RE22 for 90,95, 100 and 85-87grs., RE19 worked best with 105s. Varget was the best with 80grainers, I'll atest to that since I've used Varget with the 80PLs and BTs, 39grs as a matter of fact. Very accurate.
I think the bigger case may have something to do with that phenomenon.
Well, I'll give it a shot, I'll start with 45.5grs. and work up to about 49, and see what happens. Jay

I haven't tried RL 19 in my 6mm Rem, but I have tried numerous other powders, including IMR and H 4350. My rifle seems to be especially persnickity about what powder it likes. I get best accuracy from it with IMR 4064 powder for any bullet weight from 70 gr up to 100 gr.

I had great luck in 6mm Rem with H4831 and the 87 Hornady SP.3100 fps and 1/2" at 200 groups.Antelope never knew what hit him.

Hey Jay--if you were'nt gonna use it then you aren't wasting it??~!! Don't know if this makes sense but if it was gonna just sit on the shelf then it's like using something for free.
Any how...... RE 19 is a great powder and probably sits right between I4831 and RE22 for burn rate. These powders have a history of being good in that caliber--I would not hesitate to think RE 19 will perform well too.
Give it a try and let your gun tell you what it likes.

RL 19 should do, albeit RL 22 will likely give top velocity. I'm thinking that IMR 4064, XMR 4064 and esp Varget (my choice) will be more likely give top accuracy.

39grs. of IMR4064 and Varget worked very well with 80grain bullets, so so with the 87VMAXs I've got, actually, I guess it wasn't too bad, but IMR4831 worked the best when I tested it a few years ago. Jay

47.5grs RE19 proved to be more accurate than any RE22 load! Ill be using RE19 for this bullet weight in my 6mm from now on. Now if only the 85IBs shoot well with same load, crossed fingers. Jay

RL-19 is an excellent powder in the 6,5's with 120>130 gr bullets. My Swede loves 47.5 grs and a Barnes XFB. It's also good in the 22-250 for the heavier bullets.
