416 Rem Mag powder choices?

Gale Johnson416 Rem Mag powder choices?
I just loaded up some 350 gr Speer Hot-Cor's for a test load with 78.0 gr of H4895. Case was full up to the neck, no way could you load a mono bullet with that much powder and fit it in the mag. My question is what powder are you folks using to achieve 2400 with a 400 gr tsx or mono solid?
thank you

AtkinsonGale if that powder fills to the neck you should be able to use the X bullet, a little compaction is not a bad thing, it makes for accuracy. That would be mild compaction and weather would have no effect on it..At least that has been the case with my .416 and long heavy bullets..but Ive never had that problem in Africa or on the hot Texas border, and believe if one does then he simply used too much powder and didn't tell anybody, happens all the time with experts...

Gale JohnsonThanks Ray,
What is your favorite powder for the 416 rem and a 400 grainer?

TexKDIn mine the powder is RL-15.

Kyler HamannI had read all the hype about RL-15 in the .416 Rem. and didn't pay much attention. But it sure sucked down the groups on mine when I finally got around to trying it. I don't recall the change in velocity, but I'm sure kicking myself for waiting so long to try it.

MARK H. YOUNGGale,
Look no further than RL-15. Worked great in the three 416 Remingtons I owned with 350 and 400 grain bullets.

Gale JohnsonThank you guys, I will try some RL-15
I have been shooting some 350's, its a pretty big hammer for me. I need a better pad on the gun, the 60 plus year Winchester pad is a bit stiff.

wheleniteFor both accuracy and velocity I had the best results with BL-C2 in a 1994 Winchester Mod. 70 Safari Express.

AtkinsonGale,
I shot 78 grs. of RL-15 for years and I got 2350 to 2375 FPS with a 400 gr. whatever..80 to 82 grs. was max in all the .416 Rem.s that I had over the years, since I sold and traded so many 416 Rems I stuck with the lesser load as it worked in any 416 Rem. None of these guns showed any dangerous pressure signs, not even with the 80 gr. loads in Tanzania or in the Big Bend of Texas at 110 degrees after being purposely laid out on the truck hood for an hour..

StonecreekAccurate 4064 is working well for me. 81 grains under a Nosler Partition shoots groups way better than such a big bore should. Velocity is consistent at 2400 fps. The same charge shoots Hornady 400 grain RNSP's into the same POI at the same velocity.
