Exit3130-06 for yotes?
Does anyone here use a 30-06 for coyote hunting? What bullet? and powder?
I'll be after eastern yotes and I don't what to make huge holes, but I what to ancher them.
I reload already for this caliber for deer, even have cast bullets I can use. Anyone tried cast on yotes? Damage?

Chop901Use the Speer 130 grain "TNT". 50/50 it won't exit.

SnellstromI would use your deer loads on them for starters and see what you get.
I've shot plenty of Colorado Coyotes with a 30/06 and have only used 180 grain Sierra's. All exits have been the size of a quarter except one that caught a shoulder and exited just ahead of the rear leg, that exit was as big as a football.
I've shot them with my .338 Win Mag as well with 225 grain factory Sierra/Federal and got small exits.

fredj338A tough bullet, like the Barnes TSX, is likely to open very little on a yote but still give some expansion.

450/400I wouldn't shoot them with the Barnes. I shot 4 black backed jackals in one day in Namibia with an 8x57 and a 200 gr. Barnes TSX, exit holes were the size of a cantelope...

I agree with 450/400. Don't use the Barnes. The TSX opens very quickly. You'll get a quarter to half-dollar size exit wound without striking bone. And it most certainly will exit.

AbobAs I learned on a string I opened earlier in small calibers, "Right velocity to load for predators?"
low velocity is the key

450/400It I didn't want to blow one up, I would reload with a solid of the same weight as my favorite hunting bullet.

yup.....unless one can load the ole .30-06 to about 1500 FPS he's gonna make a mess of the 'yote!
The .22 magnum rimfire is an excellent fur gun.....
If you are serious about pelts then learn to trap them!
