Ok a few questions. What are your loads for the 25-06 Rem. and 100 gr ballistic tips? What is accuracy/velocity like? Also how have they performed on game for you? I might be trying them on long range antelope.

Now, for the 270 Win. looking for loads for the 140 gr Hornady BT. Accuracy/velocity? Thanx in advance!

Pop, you should get to try those Ballistic Tips on antelope for sure, living where you do.

In my 25-06 the 100 grain Ballistic Tips shot groups under an inch using either 54 grains of IMR 4831 or 53 grains of H 4350. Either of those loads will give close to 3400 fps in my rifle.

Having said that, I never shot anything larger than a coyote with the 100 grain BT's. I have shot several antelope and wild hogs with the 115 grain Ballistic Tips and they performed quite well, complete penetration generally.

I currently shoot the 100 grain Nosler Partition over 54 grains of IMR 4831 in my 25-06. Last month I shot a coyote at 522 yards as measured with my laser range finder. I have also shot a few antelope and hogs with this load and it works great. One hog I shot with it was running at about 200 yards and when I shot he did the prettiest summersault you ever saw, kicked about twice and died.

In regard to the 270 Winchester, my dad just got a new one and we shot it last week. With 57.5 grains of H 4831 behind a 140 Nosler Partition he was getting 2928 fps and groups easily under an inch.

Thanx for the info. Both of these guns are indeed Ruger no 1's with 26" barrels.

In my old Ruger S/S 25-06, I used the 100g B-tips with very satisfactory results. I used 52g of IMR-4350 for groups hovering around .5-.75" for 3 shots at 100 yards. Velocity is right at 3350fps. I shot many coyotes at longer range, out to 600 yards and my dad has shot a couple smaller mule deer bucks out to 450 yards with the 100g B-tip. The bullet has never failed us. I cant comment on the .270. Hope this helps a little.

I will second the H4831 behind a 140 grain bullet in the 270.

You MUST try RL22 with the 100 Ballistic Tip. FAST and ACCURATE!!!! Seating depth is something I might have missed had I not read a fantastic article in Varminthunter by Steve Timm. Play with the seating around the touch point with the Stoney, .001" off the lands is where I get bug hole groups with a BUNCH of RL22.

My mule deer last year fell to a 115 gn BT from a 257 AI @3100 fs. One shot and he dropped.

Shot a red hind last month with the 270 load at close range and it broke both shoulders, exit wound was about 1 inch dia.

Any on game experiences with the 100 gr BT's?

I now only load the barnes 100 grain Triple Shock in my .25-06. I get Ballistic tip accuracy and great expansion and penetration. I can take anything from antelope to Elk with this combo.

I will second "Tim in TN's" recommendation of Re 22 in the 2506. In my Ruger V/T, a serious dose of the stuff will put 5 of the 100 gr BTs into about 3/4 of an inch.

The deer that I've taken with this load have ranged from yearling does to 180 lbs (dressed) mature bucks. The bullet works quite well, but I wouldn't try to break shoulder bones with it- unless you like picking bone chips out of your deerburger. I shot a coyote that wandered out in front of my deer stand last fall- took her through the top of the shoulders at about 200 yds (I sometimes forget how flat the 2506 shoots). I hit the shoulder blades/spine and ploughed a 3 inch wide furrow across her back. Keep your shots in the heart/lung area and out of the shoulder bones and you'll be happy.

I have a load for the 140gr hornady BTSP.IMR 4350 53.2gr,WLR primer & win brass.3.29" COL,shoots 3 shots under MOA at 100 yds.This is a max load in the hornady manual I am using.I am shooting a Rem. Mtn rifle with an after market kwik klip magazine kit.
