army aviatorBest 270WSM loads
I want to load some accurate 270 WSM hunting loads. I have several boxes of 130 grain Hornady SSTs along with a box of 130 grain Sierras and a box each of Hornady 130 grain IBs, Barnes 130 gr XLCs and 140 grain TSXs. I would like to start with the SSTs or Sierras.
I have H4350 IMR4350 RL17 RL22 RL25 H4831 H414 and a few other slow burning Hodgdon powders. Any suggestions for getting started?

Bear in FairbanksI dunno how much help I can be, especially since I only use 150 gr. bullets in my .270 WSM. But, when I start out with a new, for me chambering, I usually start with the most accurate powder/load from the manual that has the bullets I have on hand. I consider this procedure as a starting point and I even seat the bullets to the recommended lenght in the book.
With my WSM and 150 gr. bullets, I found all of the Rldr series of powders to be too slow and/or not as accurate as I'd like. Rldr-17 & 25 included. My final load is a 150 Northfork (worked up using a 150 Partition) and a 68 gr. charge of Retumbo. Had almost equal results with IMR-7828 ssc too.
Again, I'd start with the accurate loads in the book & go from there.
Good luck.

Ed ScarboroMy 270WSM shot best with 130gr Accubonds and RL17. The 130gr SST's with RL17 is where I would start.

phurley5My best 130 grain loads are with RL-22 and Magpro. Load is 68 grains with Federal 210M primer, North Forks are the fastest followed by Nosler Ballistic Tips, Partitions, Accubonds and Solidbase. 140 grain loads like 68 grains of RL-25 best, bullets are Nosler Ballistic Tips and Accubonds, Sierra Gameking, Winckhester Failsafe uncoated, Berger VLD. My 150 grain bullets like RL-22,Magpro, RL-19. The North Forks are fastest and most accurate followed by Nosler Partitions. I have shot many other powders including IMR-7828 SSC, RL-17, H-4831 SC and regular cut. Those listed above were superior to the later for me. Great round with great bullets available. Good shooting.
