Anyone using AA3100 with luck in any calibers?

<Don Krakenberger>Anyone using AA3100 with luck in any calibers?
I have a # sitting around and it's getting old. It seems like I always pick something else for loading. I load for lot's of different calibers--if you have a pet load that turned in good accuracy let me know and hopefully I can start pecking away at it.
thanks d kraky

<Guy>Don - my son and I use it in our 300 Win's. Winchester brass, Fed 215 primers 180 Nosler Partition w/ 75.0 gns of AA3100 gives my Mod 70, 3090 fps. The 200 Nosler Partition in his Mod 70 w/ 73.0 gns gives 2940 fps. Both shoot around 1 moa for three rounds. I bought 8 lbs of it almost twenty years ago and we are almost out now.

<Don G>Don,
I use it for my brother's 300 WinMag also with 180 gr. Nosler Partitions. Very good accuracy and very low SD. Can't remember the load and my book is in the basement - and me with a freshly broken ankle. It was the Speer manual accuracy load straight from the book, if that helps. It may be Guy's load exactly, as the 75 gr. sounds familiar. I believe we get 3050 fps from my brother's Browning.

ricciardelliAA3100 is useful in several of the overbore 30 caliber and 7mm cartridges...

<chris schwartz>AA3100 is my powder of choice for 270Win
and 6.5x55 Swede. I have had excellent
accuracy and velocity results. You can
use it as a substitute for H4831. Pretty
much the same stuff. Would probably work
good for 25-06 and 7mm Mag.

<Rust>Yes, it is proving very accurate in a .338 RUM without pushing too far towards maximum loadings. I was very surprised at how well it woks and it is a reasonably clean powder also.

<bigbelly>I use 58.5 gr. in my 9.3x62 mauser with a 300 gr.sierra btsp (.375 swaged down to .367)this load so far has given me more 5 shot groups under 1" than any other load with this rifle, even better than when using bullets made for it (speer 270 gr. or noslet 250 gr. bt)also the recoil is a gentle shove rather than a "kick".the lighter bullets don`t do as well with this powder and the case is very full even with the 300 gr.I also shoot it in my 45-70 with cast bullets over 450 grains,I haven`t had as much luck in the cases that it seems to be reccomended for.good luck, hope you can find a few that work for you.

Interesting!! I would have never thought to try such a combo. Have you chrono'ed any of the loads?

<1GEEJAY>Hey'
I am using acc 3100 in my 6.5-06 imp.Just started working up loads. It seems to favor this powder for the 120 grain bullets. My barrel is twisted for the lighter bullets.I haven't tried any in the 140 range yet. With the 120 I got an average of 3265 fps.

<Cobalt>Big Belly,
I shoot a 9.3x64 and the idea of swedging down the 300gr .375 bullets sounds great. How is this accomplished and what equipment is required? Is it a die that I can use in my rock chucker? I size and lube cast bullets, but I don't think this equipment is heavy enough for sizing jacketed bullets. Thanks for any info. Cobalt

sambubbaI used this powder when it was called MR3100 and came in gallon milk jugs. One noted authority at the time stated this was surplus IMR4831. In my rifles, this statement proved to be true as I used identical loads of the two powders in several rifles and the chrono'd velocities were very, very close. I cannot say if AA3100 is the same today as MR3100 was years ago.

<eldeguello>I too used it as MR3100, in the .30/'06, 7mm Rem Mag., and for reduced cast-bullet loads with kapok wads in the .375 H&H Magnum (60 grains, 255-grain Lyman 375449 GC). It performed almost exactly like H4831 in these three applications. I have NOT used any of the "new" AA3100, however.
